When should you do it?

Karl: What is the preferred method? It is pretty hard to get off in my experience and they are a neat accent to the look of Stelvio. I tried a brush, Dawn, Bleche White, etc. - any thoughts? Thanks in advance...

@Scalewoodman, they get the soot sprayed on them by the actual tailpipes, they appear to be at just the right distance away from the tips (exhaust finishers that are actually part of the rear fascia) that the soot lands perfectly on them, but they don’t get warm so it doesn’t evaporate or anything, just stays there. Guilias have a much thinner tip, and the tailpipes are closer to them so they don’t really suffer from this issue, but the Stelvio has thicker tips than anything I’ve seen, so naturally the soot is quite noticeable. I’d suggest waxing/polishing them so they’ll be easier to clean.

Only because you asked- I refuse to run Stella through a sand blasting car wash until the honeymoon is over. I need to find a few hours of nice weather for a makeover but you get the idea. Don't tell her I showed her private parts like this!

So, had first service this morning and everything seemed OK, until I received a dash warning indicating max oil level exceeded!! Dealer says capacity is 5.5 quarts and they claimed they put in 5 quarts. Taking the car back to them tomorrow.

Remember the good old days when we had a dipstick? Technology isn't always your friend. I will be confident with the dealer (D'Ambrosio, Frazer PA) his tech is very sharp but Valvoline or our independent shop thereafter I want to know what we're doing.

So, as an update update, returned to dealer (Sacramento , Ca) and they were very dismayed...like "not sure how this could have happened". They drained some oil out, let the system adjust, conducted test drive...still had to remove some oil, finally OK. I was there 2 hours off work.

All I can say is wow...what if I had a real problem? Frankly they seem somewhat clueless. He indicated they have conducted very few...if any, first service intervals with the eStelvio...but geez the engine is identical to the Giulia...right?

On another lighter note....I had a guy in a Acrua RDX chase me up my local hill home to no avail. He pulled into the same shopping center and met me in the store: He said "wow those Stelvios really are fast...505 hp?
I responded ..no not the Quad just the 2.0 280 hp ...he was floored.

Wonderful! Have not yet had the pleasure of that kind of fun! I am still babying my engine. Will be having wide-open-throttle fun at 2,500 miles. I plan on having my first oil change at 5,000 miles. Likely done by my local European-master mechanic, whose shop is 3 miles from my house. He is very anal and doesn't work on Dodge Rams.

Which raises the question: For those of you who have had your Stelvio serviced, at what mileage did you go? I am waiting for 10K miles. Like karlfevans I am babying mine with intention to favor long high miles vs. spirited driving now.

Did you have your tires rotated or other services (reflash of current software, etc.) handled while you were there?

What is your current miles (or kilometers) travelled as of today? Me: 5350 miles as of this morning.

Response please!

First Oil Change

Come ON guys. 5k or more for the first oil change? Really?
How about 1k to 1.5k?
I've been around cars, Jeeps and racing all my life.
Never heard anyone in the performance field ever suggest anything past that for the first, and of course that includes the oil filter, too.

I don't know much about racing practices but now that I think about it I think you are RIGHT, 5k is too long for the first oil change since it IS a performance engine. Not as potent as the Quad but still .....

So what is suggested for the second oil change? just stick with the factory 10K??

2nd post.
There is NO "dipstick", as many of you are aware.
There is at least one sensor in the oil pan. Oil level, both high and low, are viewable on the dashboard screen.
Look in the manual or just play with the screen controls and you will find the screen showing the oil level.

Tires were rotated (honestly not sure about the balance but no issues), wash, tank of gas, and obviously they were making a relationship of high quality service and longevity. It worked! He took lots of time to show and tell any questions I had- very impressed. They are making a supreme effort for customer experience.

I would make the appointment asap-- For the recalls and service @10K miles, I had to use 2 appointments because I was uncomfortable deferring the service after the 10K limit. Now I'm ready for #2 and plan to get in line asap. The dealer added a very nice lounge for Alfa customers with coffee, magazines, Wifi, and nice seating... not a bad place to do some work while you wait... but I always enjoy checking out the new inventory.

My plan is to use the dealer (40 miles) for routine service through the Warranty and then re-evaluate using the local guy (ex-Audi Service Manager independent shop now) thereafter.

Does that first service entail anything besides an oil/filter change, and a tire rotation (which I do annually with changing seasons (not necessary with the BIG dubs now)? I am coming in and asked for the service Monday when I get those 2 little recalls done before I tune, but they won't do it till 0K. Therefore, I'd rather DIY and let it drain 30 minutes, the proper way to change oil.

Why do I have the feeling that a 7500 mile change interval on this high pressure turbo motor might be a good thing???I have had no issues with 10K on my X5 3.0Si, my X5 35d and my RRS as they are bigger motors, but I am still ???about a 2.0l hi pressure turbo and the heat it produces etc??? Any motor experts chime in. Even Lincoln gave me free oil changes at 5K on my 2.3 Ecoboost.

I understand where you are coming from and wonder the same thing. I was told and have seen postings that stated Ferrari had a hand in the design/development of the 2.0 and the V6, which is basically one of their V8s with two cylinders removed. They differently know when maintenance should be done. As an owner, we can always do a engine service when we feel it is needed (not a dig at you). Manufacturers do a pretty good job of setting up maintenance guidelines and with the oil monitor system in our vehicles, it will indicate when maintenance is due. I would also think that if a owner drove their vehicle hard, they would not make it to the recommended miles and the monitor would reflect that.

Point well taken about the Ferrari connection, that being the Quad motor. It seems the manufacturers are being forced to use extended service intervals as a sales ploy at this point, so how far is too far?? What is the original factory fill oil. Is it an extended life product or just some Synthetic. I saw it posted somewhere, but courtesy of our stupid 15 minute curfew, if I leave this thread posted, find my info and want to correct later, I have to write a retractatory post.. like that word?

Found it
Pennzoil Platinum LX Euoro 0W-30, I also see posts elsewhere about Mobil 1 ESP as doing the job.

Filter: Mopar MO 339 or Mobil 1 M1-113a

Looks like I am projecting to 9600 miles at this point. So it will probably be ~9000 miles if my driving pattern continues.

My dealer in Danvers Ma. told me that Alfa wouldn't pay for the first service before 10k .
They also told me that if I changed it before 10k they would know and not pay for the 10k service.
