I never found the Q5 attractive. Very bland looking.

I agree on the bland look, that's why I'm still looking into getting a Stelvio Ti Sport myself, but....
I have a friend that has a '15 Q5 S-Line 3.0t (supercharged) with a stage 2 APR tune and pulley he runs low 12's in the 1/4 on all-season tires, gets 20MPG average and in the snow the older quattro system is pretty much the best. (Even off-road vs other crossovers). If it were not for the boring interior I'd be getting one to mod, or just get an SQ5 that can dig into the 11's in the 1/4 with simple mods and a tune.

I test drove a new '19 Q5 and a'19 SQ5 few weeks ago, and don't like the exterior still, but that virtual cluster system in the SQ5 was just amazing.

On that note, my heart still skips a beat when I think back on the Vesuvio Gray Metallic exterior, red/black interior Ti Sport I am hoping to lease once I get my money back from my Jaguar F-Pace buyback (Dangit Jaguar NA , get your sht together and pay me my mooonaaahh!!).

See my U Tube post where Q4 system is stated to be even better than Land Rover's best.

I test drove the X BMWs; 1,2 and 3. What a letdown. The 3 felt old and handled like it was. The 1 was an enigma. Maybe because it was such a dog that I couldn't see the spaciousness of the interior. Then the salesman had me drive the X2. He was sure that it would impress me. I have to say that it drove better than the others but did not have a real driver's car feel. Numb handling and not much power. And it was like a small station wagon. He told me that I should wait for the M version. I couldn't see a good reason to do that. If it's not good right out of the box, it's going to take a lot of money to fix it. Maybe the radios were good. But I didn't test drive the radios.

I do wish the Alfa radios were at least normal.

IMHO, BMW has lost their way for us real drivers. BALANCE is missing

BMW should stand for Bavarian Marketing Works.

They do an absolutely amazing job of selling their product based on virtues that product no longer has (HAS had traditionally, however that has been missing for more than a decade now IMO), while making a huge variety of product with very minor actual differences beyond looks to allow them to serve every taste of their target market AND provide their dealers with volume models as well as high profit models in every line (SUVs, sedans, coupes, etc). From a business/marketing perspective it is amazing, from a consumer perspective it is a lot of BS.

I have loved cars since before I can remember...even before Star Wars....but it has been since 2010 that I have had ANY respect for ANY of the various manufacturers in the auto industry. Not because they aren't capable of building great cars...they ALL are...however it has been a long time since any of them actually tried. They have forgotten what driving dynamics are, replaced with a push towards "tech" (why does it have to be one or the other is my question really). However Alfa changed that, I have immense respect for Alfa. Not because the car is perfect (it is far from that), but because you can tell as a car company, they put the actual driving experience first. Not everyone cares about that, which is fine and there are plenty of cars out there for those people (Audi is one of them, really nice car just not a true driver's vehicle), however I care about the driving experience more than anything else so for Alfa to actually deliver that in a new vehicle with a warranty makes me giddy.

I had Q5 for 4 years, S-line package, 19 alloys, DSG, enjoyed the car, interior, etc, had no major problems, however when testing Stelvio the world has changed for me.
Putting the power difference aside, drive engagement and dynamics is not comparable, the only 2 areas Audi was beter is a bit bigger storage ( but that means few tens of liters, so not significant) and audio system, Audi Sound System (so mid range system) was superior at half of the price of HK system. I enjoy music a lot, so that is a bummer, but not show stopper. Sound is clear, there is enough power, just the settings are limited and subwoofer sounds like being in a trailer and not in car trunk, and when trunk is full, it almost disappears. Input quality is good (Tidal HiFi) so that is not the reason. For 1100EUR option this is below standards...
The main difference now is i am looking for any opportunity to drive Stelvio, so you build an addiction 😄, I would probably do the same with Audi SQ5, but the price difference would be 40k$ here....

I had a new Q5 as a loaner for 3 weeks or something last year. Its quantifiably a great car however the stelvio just is better! The Audi is too polished and therefore for me a little too boring and benign. It does everything well but the Stelvio is a little rougher around the edges (infotainment, quality etc) but the drive, looks, feel, etc all the organic stuff is better so it wins for me. The Audi was built to keep the masses happy (like a Cayster or 911) whereas the Stelvio was built to do that stuff but keep the drivers really happy (like a Lotus)......
