the way I read that there is an intermittant setting to the rear wiper, but you have to turn the rear wiper on then turn the washer on and instead of washing the window the wiper will work in the intermittant mode?
That seems insanly complex, like an easter egg on a DVD, or the clock on a 1980's VCR.

Engaging reverse gear with the windscreen wiper operating activates a
single cycle of the rear window wiper.
Moving the stalk fig. 53 (it only has unstable positions):

I would think operation of rear wiper is more or less synced with front, so simplified from above:
Engage reverse gear with front windscreen wipers operating: rear wipers will operate regardless of rear setting on/off
Switching on rear wiper with front operational: rear wiper will operate at half the frequency of front wipers
