I get about a car's length or 1.5 car at most at max distance setting. It's a bit too close for comfort, especially at freeway speed. Is this normal? For comparison, my BMW's ACC gives about 4-5 car lengths of buffer at max distance.

I use the ACC quite a bit on the freeway here in SoCal and at 3 bars, I'm at about 3 seconds behind the car in front. So about 3-4 car lenghts. Maybe something wrong with your ACC?

On the shortest distance (1 bar) mine is at least 2 car lengths; more than enough room for someone to cut in and slow me down.

Sounds like something is out of adjustment at that setting, you should get a lot more distance at max bars.
