temp sensor mirror
another one

If you're handy, you can even just buy an NTC thermistor with the correct value for very little at an electronics store, and pot it yourself with f.i. some sillicone kit ;)
I believe standard value required is 10 kOhm

I wouldn't go that route unless strictly necessary, after all I can afford the mirror assembly. But, if it happens again I might just do what you are suggesting.

I just saw the links, those are the right ones. The same used on a Jeep Renegade, Fiat 500X,RAM, and other FCA vehicles.

Thanks All - So I bought a new sensor and fitted it (not a particular hard job), and I'm assuming its a standard 10k thermistor. It had the right number - 71753245 - here was the link - New Sensor, exterior temperature, 71753245 60779278 06445F9 6445.JS 6445.F9 | eBay
My temperature now is showing at 50'C (it does work though from putting it in ice it drops 10'C and then warms up ok).
Does it need calibrating though? As obviously at the moment its about 40'c out?
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Matt

I see that one has like a clip in the front for a screw or to clip to a post. I have seen others that don't have that clip. Can you take a picture of the original one? The one you replaced? Thanks

Just to say this was an easy fix and saved piles of money.....pretty rubbish that Alfa's fix is a whole new wing mirror at £400+ and then fitting!
specially as it is not a rare happening for the sensor to fail ;)

Alfa is trying to make money off of service.

They sell it as part of the whole unit BECAUSE it doesn't break often, as such it isn't profitable to stock inexpensive parts that don't sell in high volume, but is it profitable to sell expensive parts that don't sell in high volume.

Especially in the US now because... Somehow... Even with all the "shortages"... The warehouses are full... Not sure how that works. Seems fishy, but regardless,. Most of the warehouse in CA are close to full and the rest of the US isn't much better. That part I'm pretty positive of.

(In auto parts warehousing, IMO the problem is too much old stock, there are billions of parts for cars that don't really get driven anymore sitting on shelves, stuff for discontinued cars that never sold or models that have aged out of the fleet for instance. If you have ever gone searching for a part in a 30 year old warehouse in the middle of Az... you know all about stumbling on an entire shelving unit filled with Geo Metro parts, the boxes literally decomposing on the shelf.)

Don't know it's like this so badly in the US and not there, but maybe parts of Europe have more warehouse space and/or better costing for storage so they stock the part in a more inexpensive form. That's a guess as to why the part is available by itself in some markets there for Alfa but not here.

Could also just be as simple as... There's more Alfa's in Europe and the dealers in those areas have a larger pool of old cars to fix and profit off so they don't need to manipulate pricing to create profits because they have work. Guessing, but that probably makes the most sense in an armchair analysis. That would also explain why for other makes the part is available in the US, those makes also have a larger used car fleet and more work of dealer service depts then Alfa. Sorry for the rambling...it's how I think while typing....

Also not disagreeing about it being rubbish. Absolutely is, the reasoning no matter how you cut it is rubbish. Just attempting to explain some how it "makes sense" so maybe the situation won't be so annoying.

Got the same problem on my 2018 Stelvio TI (Canada).
What is the exact part number for that bloody sensor I must get?
My dealer told me it will cost me $1355 plus labor to replace that side mirror.

Has anyone documented the procedure to get access to the sensor? I scanned the thread (quickly) and didn't see any links. Can you get access by removing the mirror cover, or do you need to take the mirror off?
