Apple CarPlay Issue (Amazon Music)

1602 Views 10 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  My Beautiful Stelvio
Apple Maps and Amazon Music App using Apple CarPlay seem to have a conflict which is causing Amazon Music app to crash. This has happened only recently. Don’t think it’s related to any updates the dealership may have installed during my July maintenance service on my 2020 MY. Only other thing I can think of possibly causing it is that I did download to iOS 15.7 to my iPhone last week.
Anyone else have this experience? Any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated. If I use Google Maps my Amazon Music app is working flawlessly.
Thank you in advance 🙏

I only started using the Amazon Music app recently, initially running iOS 15.x. Half the time the app wouldn’t even start up, or the music failed to play. I recently went to iOS16 and the behavior of the Amazon Music app is still the same.
I only use Apple Maps for navigation, but haven’t considered if running Apple Maps and Amazon Music simultaneously is what is causing the Amazon Music App to fail. Next time I’m out, I’ll use Apple Maps for navigation and run the Amazon Music app at the same time and see what happens.

Would appreciate your experience! Amazon Music app has been about 90% reliable for me. Usually use Apple Maps simultaneously with it. I’ve experienced both of the issues you mention with the Amazon Music app a few times in the past, but they seemed to be random glitches. Now the failure to load and the crashing seems directly related to the simultaneous use of Apple Maps after my iOS update.
In Google searches it seemed like a known issue (not specific to Alfa). It was suggested to try using Google Maps instead of Apple Maps. Testing it out over the past few days my results have been consistent: Using Apple Maps simultaneously with Amazon Music crashes the music app. Google Maps no issue.

I'm an android guy.. but friends and family all use Apple....

Most have said the latest couple updates to iOS 15 have been causing problems. The term "hard reset" is what they say is a possible solution.

Thank you William. At this point I don’t think this is an Alfa issue. More likely an Apple Maps issue. People on this forum are usually very helpful in sharing their advice and experiences so let’s wait and see. Glad to see that Alfa Romeo Cares has recently become more active on the forum. 🙏

Thank you as always for your help. I’m using the iOS 15.7 so maybe that’s the issue. It probably is related to these iOS updates. I’m awaiting the upcoming 16.1 update at which point perhaps this issue will be resolved 🙏

Update ref CarPlay/Amazon Music issues. My phone is iOS16.0, Amazon Music app is up to date.
The problem of Amazon Music not working is very inconsistent. I'm sure that something triggers it to not function or even crash, but I haven't figured out what that trigger is.
What I did find out that it is 100% a Car Play/Amazon Music issue, not related to the Alfa infotainment. I say that because I connected it to a BMW via bluetooth many times over the course of a few days, and the app did fail in CarPlay a couple of times.
I'm not convinced that it's related to using Apple maps simultaneously, although it may be. I always have Apple Maps running in CarPlay, but I wasn't using Apple Maps for navigation on a few of the occasions that the Amazon Music app failed in either the Stelvio or BMW.

Today, I discovered something that I will investigate further: the Amazon Music app failed to boot up in the Stelvio's infotainment (blank screen with the cursor, nothing else). I was not using Apple Maps for nav. I then opened the Amazon Music app on my phone, and then the app also came up on the infotainment screen. I need to recreate that again to see if I can repeat that consistently.

Anyway, to me it seems to be an issue with Amazon Music's app.

Thank you for the info @atcdork. I’m only using Apple CarPlay in my Stelvio. No experience with other vehicles. I’ve been using Google Maps for navigation along with Amazon Music and no issues. Unfortunately updates after iOS 15.6.1 have caused a continuing conflict between Apple Maps and Amazon Music causing the Amazon Music app to crash, either after beginning to play or not functioning at all as in your experience.
Check if you have enabled the 'Allow CarPlay While Locked' option on your phone first. To do that, go to the 'Settings' app on your iPhone, and select the 'General' > 'CarPlay' button.
And here is a troubleshooting post you can refer to: Apple Music CarPlay Not Working

Thank you for that. Turned out the issue was resolved after a subsequent Amazon Music app update.
