Hello fellow Alfisti!

Has anyone here had a Start/Stop System Failure light triggered?

It happened to my wife yesterday as she was driving home from work. Once she came home, I had her turn the car off and wait until after dinner before we restarted the car to see if the light would come back on. The good news is, it did not and hasn't come back on even after her commute to work this morning. Computers!!!:eek

I'm still keeping our service appointment if this light decides to come back on until then.

FWIW I noticed a definite update to the start/stop function after the re-flash this week (part of the recall process). So from my POV AR Engineering is being very responsive.

Hi Darlene,

Will do- as I mentioned, I'm still keeping the appointment just in case it comes back again. Who knows, it may store a code.

Thanks

I have a silly question. What did you notice that was different to the start/stop function?

Right now it's a smooth transition from engine running to not running and back to running. By the way, I'm not a fan of this feature but I understand why it's there.

Auto Stop/Start seems to be fairly sensitive to battery, I've discovered. With low voltage (in my case) it was stopping appropriately, but would re-start again before my foot was off the brake. So it would be stopped for maybe ten seconds, and then just restart while still at a stop. With the battery charged up, it's functioning as expected.

It does not seem to be as 'active' as it was before and also agree the transition is smoother/less abrupt. I am learning to accept it except in stop and go traffic and a few other situations where I disable it.

The start&Stop light is a general warning light like the engine fail light. Battery and power line normally is the cause but, in any case, go to the service for a dtc scan

Be sure to check the hood. Two sensors under the hood and they will trigger the start/stop if both latches are not fully engaged.

Ask me how I know....

If we can find a way to bypass this European nuisance, I'm all ears. I'd love to see the studies that prove its effectiveness. Probabbly the very conditions most people deactivate it! Like Stop n Go traffic

The light still hasn't come on since my initial post and the earliest appointment I could get is after July 4th.

I'll let everyone know if there are any changes.

If it does come on again, try opening the hood, and closing it. To close the hood, lower it most of the way, then let it drop on its own for the last 12". That may clear the problem.

Hi Jasmine,

No- I'm planning on going to the dealer where we purchased our Stelvio. The date chosen was mutually convenient for both of us. I asked the service department and mentioned if it was ok to keep driving. They said it would be fine.

Thanks for offering assistance and I'll definitely reach out to you if I have any issues.

Btw- light still hasn't come back on.

The latest update.

Droped off the stelvio today for it's appointment regarding the auto start/stop issue. The light never came back on since the first time.

Anyway, service confirmed it needed the update on the ecm. Bulletin 18-093-17 for those that are interested.

Back to driving ?

Was driving on PA Turnpike, light came on as well as the "Service Engine" light. Car lost power as I was passing a truck and I had to pull over. Turn the car off and on and made to work and to dealer. Car is only 4883 miles and have not heard resolution from dealer yet, and did not get loaner car nor got shuttled back to hotel where I stay, subpar service, pretty frustrating for a car in this price range.
