Picked up my Stelvio on Oct 1, 2017 so don't believe I'm subject to the current recall re bad fluid -

However, after about 1000 miles the brakes started squeaking -- initially only at low speeds - but problem has worsened - now happens at all speeds from 80 on down (haven't tried faster :wink )

If you break hard the squeak stops - If you are constantly braking (lots of traffic lights / traffic) brakes heat up and stop squeaking but as soon as they cool off problem starts again.

Every time with out fail -- hot or cold outside doesn't matter - even happens in the rain / wet conditions.

Dealership has been VERY slow to acknowledge / address the problem - finally had a 2nd tech take a ride with me the other day and he admits to hearing and agrees its loud and annoying.

Problem is they claim they cannot do any repairs on the vehicle unless instructed by the mother ship in Detroit... Service manager kept telling me how his hands are tied.

After bringing it in a 3rd time - they finally received instructions from "Detroit" to inspect the pads for grooves -- none existed apparently (not sure if they're supposed to or not) and further informed to burnish the surface of the rotors, I believe -- again not a mechanic and was only half listening to the explanation because the tech indicated the problem was fixed...

Drive off the lot, get to first light, now the squeak has become a screech that lasts as long as you're braking.

Drove back - had to take the tech for another ride to prove it .. he heard it again ... and pretty much had to beg them to try again

VERY DISAPPOINTED with the outcome to date -- will report back, hopefully tomorrow.

my dealer mentioned that it's a symptom of the high performance pads used, only way to stop it is put lower grade pads on. lookup video of the aston marton Vulcan brake squeal if you want to know what it's like at the extreme end of bad.

Recently noticed rear brakes squealing - will check back. I am not believing that high performance brakes simply squeal. Had other Alfa’s and high performance brake pads and never had squealing.

it's odd I don't have any squeal whatsoever, but I do know some of the pad materials that brembo uses has been prone to the squeal.

It's not rare, it does happen on some setups. softer pads will stop it, which ironically won't stop the car as well!

Our Stelvio squeaks. Brought to dealer, stopped it for a day or 2 and came right back.
Plenty of cars stop great with no squeaking.

My Stelvio now has 1400 miles exactly (or2252 kilometers)
Delivery date: October 31st.
The brakes have never squeaked.

I do drive it with care and never abuse it or do any very, very hard driving, though.
Fast yes, but nothing out of the ordinary other than speeding sometimes.

Same as Tipo- 2200 miles no issues. I have used brake dust remover on my wife's A4 (a total mess of black oily dust) but no way to avoid the rotor and subsequent corrosion on it made a grindy squeak for a few miles after. When I went ceramic on my Jeep the white dust rinsed off in a puddle it was so much better. So @80K or so I hope to put them on Stelvio.

Not sure it is a foregone conclusion that every Stevio's brakes will eventually squeal. Under some conditions my Audi S5 brakes squeal. I hope your prediction is not correct.

If your brake squealing is that irritating then invoke your state's Lemon Law.

foregone, no, but yes most of us are experiencing some cold rotor squeaking.

Also, new / different pads are probably cheaper than dealing with the lemon laws, and that way you still get to drive your Alfa :)

Just circling back on this -

Dealership agreed to appease me and replace the pads as a one time good will attempt to make me happy ... They wanted me to sign a release stating that I understood this was the way the car will likely behave again after x amount of wear but when I picked up the car no such document was presented

Long story short - they made it right after a bit of pain. I'm hopeful it was just a bad batch of pads out of the factory and that I'm good to go moving forward. Time will tell...

Did they replace them with the same pads as original, or a different type?

Let us know what you experience, if it solves the squeak I'm sure many people will want to do the same!

Mine just started to squeak but only when it's cold. I'm convinced it's the brake pad material causing the squeaking. What we really need is an aftermarket brake pad to be released for this SUV. I haven't seen any options out there yet.

On an unrelated note I had a low squeaking at all speeds from my passenger side front wheel. Service tech said it was a small piece of plastic from one of the sensors rubbing against the back side of the rotor hub and was fixed under warranty.

Pedal feel has evolved as the friction surfaces mated (3300 miles) and I am fine with pedal modulation and brake feel. Fortunately no squeal but there has to be a cause-and-effect.

I would go for ceramic pads in a heartbeat when the time comes.

Thanks, a good video that supports all the articles I've been reading, after experiencing some squealing in the Stelvio at certain times and not a others, I'm good to go.

At 1.2k and in the very cold start of the year, the sound was pronounced at times, and now at 2.5k, I rarely hear more than what you hear at the beginning of the video.

No effect on braking and now all but gone...

By the way, I really like the new electronic brake peddle feel...

@bonhart: Thanks, great stuff on the video! But you just made it much harder for me to ditch Lucy, my 944 Turbo, for another sports car. She has survived many challengers making siren calls to my id.

@TiSport: Agree with adapting to brake pedal feel. I am liking it more.

Same issue if not worse. Just hit 1200mikez on my TI Sport. Brakes squeak while driving and not touching break. Loudest a low speed and only stops when completely stopped. Very annoying and embarrassing for new car. Calling dealer tomorrow. Unacceptable!?
