Charcoal canister

So I had my charcoal canister replaced under extended warranty. The symptoms I had was no remote start, with check engine light on. I have a cheap engine trouble reader, that didn’t show me any codes. Once at the dealer, they said it show the code for charcoal canister. Why was my reader not able to show any codes?

I wasn't even aware my Stelvio has a charcoal canister. Is this part of the AC?
every car has one... near the gas tank for overflow .... think EPA mandates it. Of course, there is that cannister near AC....are they carbon as well?

It sits below gas fill tube to catch excess fuel and vapors to protect the environment.
If you frequently "top off" your tank after the pump auto shuts off, you can over fill the canister, throwing error codes and preventing remote start from working.

Is your car a 2018 or newer?

now a days (after 2005?) each euro cars had their own scanners. One of those cheap ones you have may work great for FORDs and GMs but it doesn't work for all cars. Alfa has a scanner called MultiECU. available on the web and some stores mentioned frequently here. It's not costly but it's not $20 either. those cheap one will give you basic codes but not sure if it would have given you the cannister error. Total investment of $100 is not such a bad thing if you want to play with your car.

Not sure if SGW will have blocked the reader, so I think @Bladecutter was probably asking that question. Since your 2019 has SGW.

Yes, exactly.
With the SGW in place, tiy can't access the PCM or the BCM, which is where most codes come from.
Okay what is a SWG. Because my Stelvio is stock. Beside little appearance items
