Lots of error messages and battery issues?

Hi All .. had my 2018 stelvio diesel for 18 months now .. generally all good
out in the rain saturday night .. the estimated milage for available fuel is dropping faster than expected .. but no great worries
Sunday, jumped in and I get a info panel full of scrolling messages as I hit the starter button. Flat tyres ( not flat) parking break not applied, no stop start ( never worked) check transmission ( no Park "P" displayed) and a few others. No attempt to turn over... after 10 mins or so, the "P" appears flashes then on and the car starts .. and stops .. "P" dissappear. Afew more times then seems stable but engine light on and DNA in N .
Into D, up the drive ... reverse back a few times . Goes into "P" .. stops .. restarts. It gradually starts to behave , so I nip to the shops, filled up with fuel ... but noticed my range had gone back to where I would have expected it to be .. curious!
Stop stat at fuel fullup ... shop ... stop start .. no engine light ... yay .... car slips into P and stops... at the entrance to the car park .. great.
20 miss of messing about , seemingly no electrical power, then it starts and idles for 10 minutes, I make a dash for home.. turn it off .. then try staring it again .. no P, all the errors again
Charged battery (OEM varta) seemed ok, engine light off
Monday local garage get me a AMG replacement as recommended, tested my old battery, seemed to be ok on the tester .. then cranked it .. still OK... bemused, we did it again ... sudden drop in voltages etc .. new battery fitted, errors cleared... happy boy
Trip out ... all good.
Tuesday ... the dash is lit up like a Christmas tree .. same old problem back

I am suspecting a comms issue and my tech man can check the CAMBUS ( canbus?) ..

Maybe unrelated .. but had a burning rubber smell a few weeks before as we pulled in home ... it was late and wet ( again) no sign of the smell in the morning after a run ... and garage man checked cam and accessory belt .. all looked fine.
Had a low oil pressure light flash up momentarily, no seen that again either the same day

Any ideas anyone... I have it booked in this afternoon for diagnostics

The results of your diagnosis are interesting. Please write back as soon as you do
Hi All .. ......

CAN bus = Controller Area Network
Basically network that connects all electronic modules
;)
Had more diagnostics ... loads of messages about module A not talking to Module B etc ... dianostics took ages to read as it too had difficulty talking to the modules. I left it with ignition turned on ... eventually it calms down .. starts.. then stops.. I managed about 12feet back under the car port ... before it went back into park ..
Exhaust gasses smell a bit strange .. maybe from the abrupt stops.
When running, battery charging at 14.2 V ... and starter turns over and starts realy well ... so plenty of battery power when the ecu allows it to start
Scope diagnostic later this week .. ECU .. Bcm .. who knows!
It can't be water ingress in the passenger footwell? Maybe a bad ground connection?
Yeh .. all dry arround the BCM ... hmmm
Have you visually inspected the wiring for damage?

What you can see of course.
Yeh .. where I can see it .. .. but I expect there will be an issue somewhere ... any ideas where the oil pressure sensor is .. that was the very first message on the info panel ... "bong" low oil pressure .. then all ok ... maybe .. just maybe it is near the exhaust or turbo and it got a bit hot ( burning smell) and is now giving some interference on the comms lines???
Mmm .. .ECU has now dissapeared from diagnostics, neither can the rest of the control units see it . All diagnostics point to "cant see ECU"
New battery sits at 12.4V disconnected, 11.8 when connected , if I disconnect the ECU it goes back to 12.3V.
CAN network seems stable ..
New ECU ordered ..
Strange. Could be a bad ECU, that's rare but it happens.

Have you tested the wiring? Be sure there isn't something that might have shorted it out or caused a power spike/starvation that killed it?
Maybe is not getting power, and that is why is not showing up. Watch on Youtube a channel called Pine Hollow Diagnostics. He is dealing with this kind of issues.
Yeah, step 1 is confirming that the power to the module is making it there.
First, check that the fuse is good, then remove the connector from the module, and test with test light and dvom on the correct wires/pins.

Pine Hollow Diagnostics is good, but I much prefer Eric O from South Main Auto.
I may have to check him out, I haven't heard from him yet.

New ECU .. sale or return ( at a cost) no change to situation .. still a full dash of warning lights, so the actual ECU apparently not the problem

Has anyone seen any wiring diagrams for the Stelvio .. or Guilia in reality .. how different can they be ( famous last words!) .. to make wiring check easier

I will check out the youtube suggestions

The dianostics are all pointing to no ECU comms ... CAN bus ( comms) was all stable after scoping .. but yeh no visibility of the ECU.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone
I would check for ECU voltage first, then ground continuity.

Any ideas of which pins are the power input and grounds?? And the expected voltages ⚡
Sorry, I don't have any schematics. I remember that I have used a fused ECU/Trans power for the grill V Led lights. That is located in the engine compartment(passenger side in US). I don't remember which one though. It was a tiny 10A fuse, toward the front of the car. It should be there, where the arrow's point is.

Aha .. yes i know this fuse box .. same place on a UK spec car.. 2 screws hold the top on.. will take a look
Many thanks

Another fuse box towards the front of the car .. this is where the relays and fuses seem to be. If I feed power to the ECU relay ... it ( the ECU) powers up and diagnostics can get in. But there is now power getting to this relay from the loom ... fuses all seem OK
.. now I can artificially see the ecu ... It seems the gearbox control module is not playing ball either ... maybe gets power from the same place .. so so difficult without schematics
Have a date for a local dealer .. just have to get ot there!
