the exhaust sound was always in the right side. It comes and goes, usually is worst if I don't use the car for a while

I suspect that must of the carbon buildup in my older Quad happened during the starting mode, I always waited a couple of minutes….old school….., now I drive away right away, that mode gets canceled!!!

No man, it is not from the carbon buildup . It is normal and it is present in the every QV whatever is it have added port injection or not, even new ones. If the car stays not driven longer it seems that it takes some time more oil to get to hydraulic lifters and it goes away soon or even faster when start driving immediately.

Of course the ticking sound is not related to the carbon buildup for sure.....

I was referring to the period of time immediately after startup when the car runs rough, it seems it has to do with rich fuel in order to get hot faster the catalytic conv so less pollution (and more carbon buildup maybe??)
In any case in the new car I start driving immediately and that mode gets canceled.
