Anyone taken their Stelvio in the snow yet?. Curious about general experiences, need for cables etc. We receive lot's of snow in the Northern Sierra Nevada.

there was one youtube video posted from the press intro in St. Moritz where a pretty serious blizzard was encountered. The driver did not appear to have any issues with Pirelli Scorpions mounted, while other vehicles were not doing as well
Hi All,

I've done about 200 miles in the day in some pretty crappy snow. I use my Stelvio Milano as my daily drive for my job and recently due to some freak weather conditions had no choice but to go off the main roads and down single track, high gradients climbs and descents. Snow ranged from 4" to 8" mostly covering black ice or partially melted snow. First real test came when a car had stopped due to spinning out on a 25% gradient causing me to stop too. Starting going again was only met with minimal slip of the wheels and I easily drove around abandoned cars stuck in the snow. Second test came on a frankly scary snake of a road down a 30% gradient where I could see cars and 4x4's had gone off the road and turned back or been abandoned. I used the HDC for the first time ever and was impressed to say the least. The road then flattened in a dip then much to my amusement there was a snake back out of the valley but closer to 25% on the way out. Devoted 4x4's abandoned on the way up to drive around.

No chains or off road tyres on the stelvio and it made the bad conditions look like a walk in the park.

Nice. Have to be happy with that performance.
What tires (sorry... tyres) were you using?
Standard fitment from dealer in the UK on the Milano are Michelin Latitudes

That was one of the better YouTube video's I've seen on the Stelvio. I love Switzerland and it brought back great memories driving thru the Alps.

Yes, he mentions Pirelli Scorpions which are fantastic tires but tend to wear out quick. Had them in my previous vehicle... the gentleman behind the wheel drove exceptionally well in the snow and on the ice. I would have plowed into that car going in reverse, no doubt.

I've had my Stelvio since October and it's rained here only 1 day. Worked form my home office that day, so I haven't even driven in the rain yet, lol. Can't wait to try out my windshield wipers.

Wow! Beautiful and crazy! Looks so peaceful too

I cant believe how effortlessly it handles that snow (although I'm not behind the wheel so I don't know what it actually feels like to be driving on it) You make it look effortless:smile
gearing used

Marzo and mmoretti,

In the snow, what were you using: Alfa’s DNA – Dynamic, Natural, and Advanced Efficiency

and were gear you using? regular "D" ?
ehm, no, N and manual, better control and performance

tsc and esp are very invasive

effortless is a strong word, nope, it was hard, very hard to advance but the stability was excellent

in case of deep snow, no way, the car stop Q4 or not
next videos I'll show you the stelvio and ice driving school in livigno, not bad but low drift cause the electronic controls

Looking at Marzo's Video in the snow ... You see the issue in the middle of the windshield where it fogs up .

the circus is finish monday morning, too much snow, big danger for avalange
Hadn't been here in a few weeks so just seeing this thread. We had a major snow event here (major because it's rare here and there is scant snow removal equipment for anything other than major highways). On the first morning, the road conditions were the worst I think I have ever seen in the 25+ years I've been living in NC due to the way it came down -- rain to slush to 6 inches of powder followed by hours of sub freezing temps. The 4 lane highway I drove to work on looked like an ice rink. Having said that, I don't think I have ever driven a car in the snow or frozen stuff that was as stable as the Stelvio. It was awesome. I left it in N pretty much the whole drive -- back roads to highway. It just gripped and went, even over areas I assumed would be more slippery. It did disengage the auto brake/collision system but it was well indicated on the dash and I wasn't driving anywhere near anyone anyway. I've had a few Subarus and other all wheel drive vehicles I thought were pretty good in snow but this was better than anything I've driven.

So I’m not in the beautiful Italian alps and I’m not in a Stelvio right now :) like @Marzio but I sure could use one on our snowy travel day between ski resorts in Vermont. I can’t wait to test it out in the snow! Our next out of the country ski trip will be the Italian alps for sure! Can we rent a Stelvio when we come @Marzio ?

I was in Greensboro in the same storm and went out to an empty parking lot to work on sliding - each time I thought I was about to spin out, the Stelvio straightened up...
