Can't comment on the ride, as I only have 20's, but the tire gap will be the same, as you're not able to close the gap unless you put on larger overall tires, or lower the car.
yes the 22 wheels will visibly look larger from the wheel perspective, but the overall size will remain essentially the same. (unless you put on larger tires for the 22 rims)
stock 20 is 255/45/20, stock 21 is 255/40/21 Both are near 29" in height, (29.03") the 22" wheel package that gets to this height would be 255/35/22. leaving the same gap from fender to tire. but leave you rolling on 35 profile tires, I think many would agree that means a harsher ride than the 45 profile tires, but your butt meter is the important one.
if you went to a 245/40/22 the package would be 29.7 in height, which would reduce the tire to fender gap by .35" and raise your car .35" and maybe not ride as harsh as the 35 profile tires.
the stock 19" tires are 29.2" so this is only about a 2% increase over that stock size. will 1/3 inch ride height increase bring you peace of mind for your front lip?
One could also go to 265/35/22 which is 29.3" which is closer to stock, but won't really close the tire to fender gap, or raise your car, (maybe 1/6 of an inch)
Changing to a larger overall diameter is something that affects your speedo and odometer, know about it before you choose your path.
