My recollection, (flawed as it may be) is that for Porsche, when they had a platform that may handle better than the 911 , they didn't give it the full power treatment, thus, no real availability of 968 turbos, or early boxsters /Cayman's with comparable power, of course today, there is a bit of cross over as one can get 400 Hp in the cayman, and it costs more than the 400 HP 911, so their philosophy has adapted a bit.

OK, yes, there are some exceptions to the lower vehicle level that outhandle the more expensive one..

I'd argue that while Tonale and Stelvio are very close to the same price, the Tonale (in the US) is a hybrid only, any hybrid costs more than their gas-only counterparts, so we need to consider that.

Alfa could've done better with Giulia and Stelvio's 2024 facelift, especially in the infotainment integration with the digital cluster, I'm not talking about changing the main infotainment GUI or screen (though it would've been nice!), I'm talking about enabling maps to display in the cluster for Giulia and Stelvio 2024 models as a bare minimum. It is annoying that the navigation directions (when you have setup a route) are stuck to the right side of the cluster and you cannot cancel them to display other things there (trip A or B, or media info, for example). I was in shock when I drove the 2024 loaner my dealer gave me. Nice cluster, in comparison to the Tonale, it has half the functionality...sad.

There ya go.... If it was a new platform the hybrid could have been maybe a little more then a base Stelvio with that reasoning. Which I do agree with

Really???

Everytime I think my opinion of the people making the decisions can't get lower.....

I think you're missing my point...Tonale's platform is inferior to Stelvio's. Which why Tonale doesn't drive like the Stelvio (despite being so close in price). The only reason why the Tonale is so close in price to the Stelvio is because it is a hybrid only (again, it only happens in the US). Stelvio base in Italy starts @ 50,455 Euro, while the Tonale base (gas only) starts @ 37,816 Euro, that's over 12k Euro. That price gap proves the Tonale is the inferior product.

The way the Tonale is sold in the US is very misleading, making people think they should be much closer in performance and feel because they cost pretty much the same, while the only reason they cost the same is the fact that hybrid drivetrains cost more.

No, I got that and agree with it. Just think another road could have been taken. Also that Stellantis is charging too much for their EV/Hybrid tech.

Though I do think alot of the costs of hybrid/BEV/Gas are manipulated. Not by the car manufactuers this time. By their suppliers. Stellantis isn't at fault here.

Battery pricing been at the point for while now, that years ago suppliers said would create price parity with gas, instead of that EVs are as expensive as ever.

It's a horrible situation for the car companies, and why they have to invest so much to develop this tech themselves. The suppliers are killing them, the manufactuers have to take over their own battery supply chain.

Motors and software too.

Alfa Romeo still lies about this feature: Highway Assist System

@AlfaRomeoCares : The system works on selected highways! There is no info what those selected highways are. Your description of the system in the manual is a lie!

I am that other guy who went through Lemon Law arbitration and Small Claims Court and won at both. Glad yours works on 880. You actually state that it doesn't work on 280 and 101 - so you see, it's not bullshit... I rarely drive in the east bay or south bay. It has a zero operation rate on the routes I drive; US 101 SF to Sonoma, 280 SF to San Jose. Sorry If you consider offering another person with the same issue and whom also began a thread to see the thread I started as ranting. Sounds more like you are ranting in your response...

For me, the system works beautifully. Alfa's literature and videos state that the feature can be used on highways of a minimum width, usually interstates that are not urban. And I have a traffic jam assist for low-speed driving. It even works in the Holland Tunnel!

Yes! I drove a few hundred miles on an interstate highway 2 weeks ago. The HAS worked flawlessly all the way, day and !night!. Very good lane centering, no ping-ponging from line to line; no problems on curves.

Together with the adaptive cruise control they reduce driver's workload by, maybe, 30%.

Still, the problem remains: the system does not work on many highways in my area.
