Question about cover/panel missing under Stelvio.

Hey Guys,

Question about the under tray that covers the oil filter that needs to be removed to do an oil change. I just discovered mine is missing when I saw a drop of oil under the car. Nothing crazy as you can see. But I cant seem to find where to buy this if the dealer I bought it from doesnt have it. I havent been able to drive really since the day I bought it except for maybe 60 miles; it's been parked so Im not too worried about road debris damaging it. My assumption is that they forgot to put it back on when they serviced it last so I am calling tomorrow to see if their service dept has it. If not I am going to have to buy one. Is it just this Alfa Romeo Giulia Front Lower tray I would need here? Thanks in advance!

If it was one drip of oil and you don't see any residue otherwise on the engine....

Might have been some spilled at the top when refilling after the oil change that took a little bit to run down the engine then drip off the bottom.

Definitely call them about that panel... And check very thoroughly to be sure the oil drip isn't a problem. But if you did and don't see anything, no reason to trip out given the oil change being recent.

To check just look above and below for any oil residue anywhere.

I'll add in that first picture, it does look like the round black part might be wet. That would be a mount.

Ok thank you. a friend of mine said the same thing actually. The maintenance including oil change and oil filter replacement was on Nov 9 2023, so very recently, and it hasn't been driven much since it was on their lot. It could very well be from spillage. I will look a little more closely to see if there is any more residue...

And Im aggravated about the panel- would have never even thought to look under the car. Lesson learned. Im almost positive they forgot to put it back on at the dealer though. Calling tomorrow

Keep us updated. If they don't have it .... They should be able to buy it for wholesale and at least pass the cost along. Since you bought it there I assume.

BTW... That last picture shows, from a different angle, the same area that broke on a Grand Cherokee while being off-roaded. The Grand Cherokee is the same platform.

Might help make you feel better to look at the pictures from the Grand Cherokee and notice how much smaller and cheaper the welds are in the same place.

These are really well built vehicles, sucks to have this frustration early but once it gets fixed I bet you just enjoy the car.

Wow.. not just the welds being thicker, there is more metal and the parts being joined have more contact/overlap by maybe double. 🤯

DUDE, that's exactly what I was going to ask them to do in the event they couldnt find this one..less the guilting them about replacing it on another car :ROFLMAO:. Its easy enough to do though and I dont actually think they would be against it to get me off their back

I am actually going to ask for the service report in full from when they did their inspection/pre-sale service in November. I thought they had included it (he had it with him in the finance office I think) when the car was bought a week ago but looks like we didnt get it; just the car fax. I would be VERY surprised if they didnt use the proper oil given the high volume of Alfas this dealer sells.

#24 ·
Wtf. How do you forget to put that thing back on?
This is almost as bad as forgetting to torque down the wheel bolts.
Not only they owe you to put one on regardless where they source it from ON THE SPOT but id ask for something extra on top of that.
Theres honest mistakes and theres gross incompetence and negligence with your property.

Warranty repairs should not require an inspection fee. But it doesn't hurt to ask and be sure.

Pretty sure there are no facia changes 2018-2020. So the parts should fit, check the above site and see if they have Alfa if so they should have it. Another option is talking to a local body shop and see if they can give you a source, also check what the dealer's parts dept. They can get everything for the car.

Thnx, good to know. I may just take it to dealer then since its 2 miles from my house (im lucky).

Glad to hear the parts should fit from previous years. I did try the site above last week several times but had a difficult time with it as there are no part names in the drop down that match what I have seen them called so Im not sure what I am looking at, and no picture to confirm it is right. Also every part I have attempted to look up that seems right it gives me the same "could not find part" message with a form to fill out for request. I may have to ask the indie alfa dealer about it like you are suggesting and hope he can get it for a reasonable price. The dealer will be exorbitant, but will at least have the official part name. im trying to keep the extra expense as low as possible.

I don't feel like I have the needed amount of information to say what @jvincetti1991 is...

..... But my gut instinct tell me he may be correct.

I don't believe that is a normal occurrence, 0 proof otherwise but it just doesn't have the ring of truth to me. 90% of the cars on the road have the same panels underneath and they don't get thrown away.

I was just telling him they didnt say it was "normal", the service mngr told the sales guy it happens from time to time. My friend is the one who said he sees it alot and def more than is acceptable on luxury cars, and for that reason to take pics any time I leave it for repair. He wasnt surprised and said it wasnt worth arguing a sleazebag dealer over and to just buy them. We'll see what the sales associate find out today. he's trying to get what he can for me but Im starting to see where the information gaps are though in the process. Not saying it's ok they didnt disclose it, but he definitely did not know, and I didn't have the time to have a mechanic come and inspect it before leaving so thats something Im def doing next time unless I get it new (which I might).

im also not really driving until my insurance is active so Im just researching it and arranging to the parts replaced and the mount fixed before I really start taking her out...

#38 ·
Right- thats what im hearing re: the mount . And I can thank new insurance policy holding times here in CA for grounding me here....plus Im not taking any chances; the car is too new (for me) and Id like to get it all right on the fixes anyway. I wouldnt have seen the leak if the cover wasnt there so I need to see the silver lining at least in some way.

I may have actually found the front bumper piece (ie "skid plate") btw for under $100. I think im more comfortable buying it new than from someons' salvage car listed on fb. The bigger center tray will cost me around 160 at the lowest it looks like, at least from what I can tell. Otherwise 250-400 range.

Just as a side note....I went to view a used 2021 Stelvio today at a Chrysler dealership. Looked underneath and the same under tray was missing! I think the one I checked out today was an ex-Enterprise car. Wonder if the rental agencies might leave them off to "facilitate" servicing?

Really wanted to buy the car but it had a number of things missing as well as a large gap between the headlight and bumper that wasn't disclosed. I made myself literally walk away.

#41 ·
Wow...you actually looked under the car--good on you man! Thats not a side note- it's actually pretty relevant and real-time proof it wasnt a random thing on my end. Mine wasnt a rental though. How many miles did the one you checked out have? And what else was missing? Im not sure I can picture the headlight and bumper gap like you are describing...I def would have walked away from that too.

Mine was immaculate otherwise. Def one of the best used ones I saw and drove ...

Rental cars... Yeah I can believe the rental company "techs" the service them leave those off. Hadn't thought of that.... Generally the techs at rental companies are the guy who got fired from all the dealers and independent places, which to be fair doesn't take a horrible tech. A person can get fired just for not keeping their area clean... Or for forgetting to put on underbody shields....

Thank you thank you....she said thank you kind sir.

My heart is still on Blue BUT im liking the gray exponentially more and am getting tons of compliments on it. The montecarlo blue comes in the same blackout edition but the contrast with the gray is getting more votes. I just know that the one I have is so clean in side and out that its hard to be upset, other than from the annoying things that weren't disclosed, which Im starting to think is more common than not unless we are buying new. My friend even warned me about getting an upgraded aluminum tray for under the car bc hes convinced it would get stolen.

I dont know but it definitely is an emotional decision. You will find yours for sure...I have hope...send pics of the ones you are shopping for Im sure other peeps would love to chime in on it.

The way it was explained to me was that they cant just take parts off one car and put it on another. Then they are knowingly and actively altering the condition of one of the other vehicles. It seems like an easy enough thing to do IMO, and I am actually going to ask again to see if they would be willing to make an exception and then just disclose it on the listing or something. They just got 3 new 2020 stelvios on their lot this past week so I feel like it is totally feasible. I dont want to pay $500+ for those 2 missing trays, and If I knew they were missing I would have negotiated that down to make up for it.

Again, the sales associate told me that the head mechanic was complete ******* so he is going to try talking to someone else for me who he has a better rapport with to see how far he can get. I dont agree with it, but I guess theres a reason people hate going to dealerships and are just doing carvana, or driveway online shopping instead. That might be the way I go next time now that I know I love these cars.

@Flaring Afro , $3200??? Wtf????

I just randomly found this and the coverage looks phenominal.

Anyone interested in trying a group buy off Aalibaba?

Magnesium/Aluminum/cold rolled steel composite underbody shield that includes coverage for the center differential for $60 ea if we order 50. $78 ea for one.

Wow, I just noticed it has a smaller access panel just for the drain plug, so you don't have to remove the entire panel to do an oil change..... This thing might be really sweet....

DASHBOARD TRIM$502.20
CENTER CONSOLE TRIM$1,146.60
LH FRONT DOOR TRIM$397.80
RH FRONT DOOR TRIM$434.00
LH REAR DOOR TRIM$360.00
RH REAR DOOR TRIM$446.40
GRAND TOTAL$3,287.00

Now that I'm looking at it again, I'm not certain that they didn't forget the cup holder cover trim so it may be even more. I can't imagine what the OEM carbon fiber pieces must cost if the aluminum is priced this high.

Yeah, I think ordering more than 1 you want to contact about shipping. No way the cart is right.

1 unit is 77 dollars and each unit added seems to add 77 dollars in shipping... That can't be correct. However, for just one, with shipping, the price is still better then anything else it seems like.

Might order one for myself.

yeah she showed me a pic of their Mercedes skid plate and it is really big (though it seems much bigger than the Alfa's) so cost of shipping overseas makes sense for this... I was hoping they made the front bumper skid plate/splash guard too but no luck on that. Oh well I may actually have to get OEM (That one is $121 + $44 for 8 screws before tax) 😤

Wow. I was afraid the pics were doctored or CG... That looks great.

I dunno about the Alfa's being much smaller, shaped different and maybe narrower as it goes back, but look under your car all the way back to the center diff. That's pretty much half the length of the car. It'll be big/long. Probably close to that.

From the pics though it looks 2 piece so it will be a shorter box.

The pics looked "dirty" enough I didnt get the impression they were doctored. I was more worried about the build quality and fine details being sloppy. I bought a guitar on dh gate years ago and it was honestly very impressive. They customized everything for me and gave me updates on the build every step of the way...fixed things that looked off for me. Guitars are iffy with so much going into them...this is a little easier to tell unless the holes are misaligned.
